This month we're exploring Caturra, the variety that helped put Colombia on the world coffee map. Long one of the country's most widely planted varieties, Caturra remains distinctive for the dynamic acidity, complexity and body it brings to the cup.
Colombian Caturra
We're showcasing Caturra in two community-grown expressions: a washed lot from CDNT in Northern Tolima, and a honey-processed lot from the Inga community in Nariño.
El Oromazo
We find this lot reflecting the profile of this area, with a poised balance between bright citrus and a deep dried fruit sweetness, lifted by complex notes of apple and grape.
Aponte Honey
This honey-processed Caturra is a throwback to the classic Colombian coffees, with bright acidity, florals and a clarity that is hard to find in some of the newer and more common rust-resistant varieties.

Last month's coffees
Last month we were exploring coffees from East Africa, one of the true birthplaces of coffee and home to some of the world's most distinctive coffee-growing regions.
Both of last month's coffees showcase two of East Africa's most classic flavor profiles: a natural from the highlands of Sidama, Ethiopia, and a washed lot from the slopes of Mount Kenya. Both are rooted in smallholder cultivation and shaped by the altitude, soils, varieties, and people of their respective regions. Though the two countries are neighbours, they each represent a distinct tradition in flavor, farming, and coffee culture.
