Lantern House

Our new café and bakery at Lantern House sits beneath the High Line in Chelsea. The former elevated railway’s industrial structure provided a starting point for the design, bringing our Scandinavian roots into conversation with the surrounding architecture.

Architecture

Drawing on the railway history, the design takes inspiration from the Danish IC3 train. Known for its distinctive rounded forms and functional interior, the train became a reference for the shapes and details throughout the new café and bakery.

Set against the more rigid architecture of the existing building, these references bring a softer rhythm to the space while maintaining a connection to the High Line above.

Materials

A large existing flood wall runs through the space and has become part of the design. Integrated into the furniture, it helps create smaller, more intimate areas within the café.

Stone and metal contrast with softer upholstery, bringing depth and texture to the interior. The upholstery references a textile originally designed for the IC3, continuing the railway reference through the material palette.
