Lim Taehee
Lim Taehee doesn’t observe Seoul’s energy from a distance, it flows directly into her work. As a designer and architect, it is her duty to study the city; the way each neighbourhood expands and contracts throughout the year.
The winter’s hush pulls the city inward, spring draws colour up from pavements and parks, summer light scatters differently across the river, autumn gathers people in the warmth of the markets.
Her pieces are not depictions of Seoul, but responses to it. To the motion, the silence, the weight of time reflected in familiar streets.
We met Lim in one such moment of stillness, in October, as snow fell early over Seoul. What is normally a city of quick footsteps and busy crossings felt momentarily suspended, as though it had paused for breath.
"A generous attitude becomes, like winter, a gentle pause in life. These impressions naturally find their way into my work. And I hope to keep living out these thoughts - in everyday moments, and in spaces that hold our lives."
Moving through Seoul
We have long admired Seoul’s particular rhythm. Over the years, we have returned again and again, drawn to the tension between movement and quiet, tradition and reinvention.
Our work also moves in seasons, not as a statement, but as a fact of nature. Flavours shift, textures deepen or sharpen, and origins speak differently depending on the time of year.
In Lim’s world, the movement of Seoul is not a dramatic gesture, but a gradual evolution. Coffee carries similar movements. A new harvest landing just slightly sweeter than the last. A profile revealing a quieter note as it rests. Small transformations that ask for attention, for patience.
This is where our paths meet: in the practice of noticing the smallest of details.
